Dr. Beverly Kingston is the director of the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research focuses on addressing the root causes of violence by creating the conditions that support healthy human development. She has designed, conducted, and led several multi-million dollar school and community initiatives and research studies including a National Institute of Justice randomized trial focused on school safety. These studies aim to bridge the gap between research and practice by partnering with school teams and community coalitions to select and implement evidence-based programs, practices, and policies using a public health approach.
Dr. Kingston has published articles on using comprehensive public health models to address youth violence, school safety, neighborhood social factors, and health and the built environment. Dr. Kingston is married to Jeff Ofsanko, a paramedic in Estes Park, and an avid road, mountain, cyclocross, and gravel biker. She has a grown daughter, who directs an agency focused on residential placement for adults with special needs, and a five-year old granddaughter that calls her Bubbles.

About Heidi
As a homegrown Coloradan with a passion for keeping the spirit of our state alive and well, I started this podcast to bring the people of Colorado together to celebrate the amazing state we call home!
Come along on this journey with me as I travel across our state in my vintage RV, interviewing folks who embody the true spirit of the Rocky Mountains. From the front range to the mile-high city, to the mountain towns and the Wild West of southern Colorado, we’ll celebrate the history, beauty, and Coloradans that make this place the colorful state it is!
Each week, you’ll meet the people trailblazing the way for an even more colorful future for us all, and who are making a huge difference along the way.
